SEQ is an international qualification to accredit and encourage anyone interested in working for positive social change.
From fundraising fetes to charity auctions, many people organise and undertake a range of positive, social and environmental activities through which they generate income.
With the arrival of SEQ, there is now a route to recognise, encourage and value that activity, providing a framework and accredited qualification to work within and towards.
How Does It Work?
The Social Enterprise Qualification is learning through doing. Teachers, youth workers or training provider representatives attend a one day course (SEQ Mentor Training) to learn how to deliver Bronze and/or Silver SEQ.
At the training, SEQ mentors will receive a handbook which contains a structure to work through with learners. Learners plan and deliver socially enterprising activity while demonstrating their learning by summarising their decisions and findings in any format, creating a portfolio.
What Is It Worth?
SEQ is available at Bronze and Silver levels; a QCF level 2 Award and Certificate respectively. Bronze involves researching social issues and enterprises, and developing a single enterprise activity to raise money for a social need. Silver is a step up because learners develop and deliver a sustained social enterprise activity that generates a cash flow. Find out more about the qualification information here.
Why Should I Buy It?
Through taking part in SEQ, learners gain real experience of making money, organising events and building management skills, all the time considering how what they do can make a real difference to the world around them.
Schools and youth groups particularly have a responsibility to develop young people as future thinkers; as citizens who can make a contribution. SEQ gives young people a head start with this development, helping them engage with social enterprise in a real way to find out what socially responsible business is all about.
And that’s just the start of it.
Schools and youth groups nationwide have piloted SEQ over academic year 2010/11 to make sure it really works and they achieved some incredible things. Find out more.
Around the world, learners are engaging with SEQ and discovering the benefits of the Qualification. Find out more.
Learners doing SEQ build knowledge, develop new skills and grow in confidence and capability. Find out more about the Learner’s Process through SEQ.
As part of the Real Ideas Organisation (RIO) SEQ connects directly with the RIO Schools Service to provide social enterprise supporter packages and consultancy for embedding social enterprise thinking in your schools. Find out more.
