Qualification Information

Bronze Social Enterprise Qualification

Bronze SEQ is a Level 2 Award on the QCF. It is worth 8 credits, and is 60 Guided Learning Hours plus 20 Independent Learning Hours.

Learners research social issues and enterprises, and develop a single enterprise activity to raise money for a social need of their choice. This could be a one off market stall or event in their school, youth group, or community.

Silver Social Enterprise Qualification

Silver SEQ is a Level 2 Certificate on the QCF. It is worth 13 credits, and is 95 Guided Learning Hours plus 35 Independent Learning hours.

Learners develop and deliver an ongoing social enterprise.  Learners carry out market research, analyse the strengths and weaknesses of their enterprise activity, and generate a simple cash flow. They create an enterprise activity that has a direct impact on, or generates income for, a social need of their choice.

Silver Top-up

Only learners who have previously achieved Bronze SEQ are eligible for Silver top-up. It is a further 5 credits on the QCF, and is 35 Guided Learning Hours plus 15 Independent Learning Hours.

Learners build on their experience of having run a one off social enterprise activity, to develop an ongoing social enterprise. They deepen their understanding of social enterprise by using tools which will enable them to think about the sustainability of their business, taking into consideration its impact on people, planet and profit.

SEQ is more than just a Qualification

SEQ is a way in which learners can create positive social change whilst learning some business basics. It will enable learners to make the social change important to them, whilst gaining a qualification that will boost their employability. SEQ is about developing the social entrepreneurs of the future, and giving learners the skills and confidence to make change for themselves and others. It’s not just a qualification; it’s a means for change.

  • I would recommend the Qualification as a means of motivating students of all ability ranges. It provides a framework and focus for a business and social enterprise project. Keith Stevens, Holsworthy School
